When Life Disappoints
Sometimes life happens when we least expect it.
One phone call.
One conversation.
One diagnosis.
One betrayal.
One unanswered prayer.
One moment that changes everything.
And suddenly you're standing in the middle of a life you never imagined.
This wasn't supposed to happen. Life wasn’t meant to be this way.
Disappointment has a way of stealing more than our plans.
It steals hope.
It steals excitement.
It steals anticipation.
Sometimes the disappointment runs so deep that it becomes grief. Not only are we grieving what happened, but we're grieving what could have been. The future we imagined. The relationship we believed would last. The dream we spent years building. The life we thought we'd be living by now.
Some disappointments leave you lying on the floor, wondering how you'll ever get back up again.
Some leave you feeling as though someone has reached into your chest and carved out a great big hole where hope once lived.
If you've ever felt that kind of disappointment, I want you to know something.
You're not weak.
You're grieving.
Those are not the same thing.
Too often we tell ourselves to "just move on."
To stay positive.
To have more faith.
To stop thinking about it.
But healing doesn't come from pretending something didn't hurt.
Healing begins when we're willing to acknowledge the pain for what it is.
To name the disappointment.
To admit that life didn't turn out the way we hoped.
To give ourselves permission to grieve what we've lost… to grieve the disappointment.
Sometimes that means talking with a trusted friend, or sitting with a counsellor or coach who can help you untangle the emotions that feel impossible to put into words.
Sometimes it simply means bringing the places in our heart that ache the most before Jesus instead of trying to convince Him we're okay.
I've learned that healing doesn't happen because we ignore our pain. It happens because we invite Jesus into it. He isn't intimidated by our questions. He isn't disappointed by our tears. He isn't asking us to rush through our disappointment and grief so we can "get back to normal."
He meets us right where we are—in the disappointment, in the confusion, in the silence.
And slowly, over time, He begins to rebuild what feels impossible to restore.
Maybe your circumstances won't change overnight.
But your heart can.
Hope can return.
Joy can grow again.
And one day, almost without realizing it, you'll find yourself laughing again.
Dreaming again.
Believing again.
If this is the chapter you're living today...
Hold onto tight…
Disappointment doesn't get the final word.
Hope hasn’t let go of you -
Healing is possible.
And your story isn't over.
